Initiative selects young people for free dental treatment
A screening begins this Tuesday (28) in several cities in order to select young people aged 11 to 17 to receive complete dental care until the age of 18. The action, called Mega Dental Triage, takes place in 156 Brazilian municipalities.
The initiative is from Turma do Bem, a non-profit organization that seeks to support children and adolescents in socially vulnerable situations with free dental treatment.
Interested parties must appear at the screening stations with ID, proof of residence and a guardian. The expectation is that more than 5 thousand new patients will be referred for treatment in private offices of volunteer dentists across the country.
The screening will evaluate the clinical condition of patients, through a quick and non-invasive visual examination, carried out by a volunteer dentist. In addition, the family’s socioeconomic need will also be taken into account to prioritize the most serious cases.
“This national mobilization is to remember that oral health cannot be a luxury item. Our mission is to ensure that socioeconomic conditions are not an impediment for these young people to smile, study and seek opportunities without pain or shame,” says Fábio Bibancos, volunteer president and founder of Turma do Bem.
The complete list with the addresses and times of each screening point in the confirmed cities can be accessed at site official of the megatriage action. Young people selected after screening will receive an official letter from Turma do Bem with instructions for starting treatment.
